Nikki

Esther Loewen is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT#142998, under the direct supervision of Dr. Traci Lowenthal, Psy.D., CA 22910). Esther’s therapeutic approach is decidedly client-centered. She enters therapy with the assumption that it helps most when professionals understand their clients to be the experts of their own lives. Esther’s theoretical orientation has been guided by principles and techniques from: DBT, CBT, narrative theory, feminist theory, and IFS. Working with couples, Esther typically utilizes John and Julie Gottman’s approach as well as Emotionally Focused Couple’s Therapy (EFCT). Because of her spiritual background, Esther is comfortable working with people from all religious traditions, and particularly those who have been harmed by them. As a member of the LGBTQ community, she is enthusiastic about working with other queer and gender-expansive people. Esther sees clients of all ages, including teenagers, couples, and families.

Esther is an educator, and public speaker. Hailing originally from Walla Walla, Washington, she transplanted to Redlands, California in 2019. Esther gives her heart and soul to creating inclusion by celebrating beauty, following curiosity, and showing up in courageous authenticity. Her through-line message is “you are enough.” Esther’s professional life has
been filled with 16 years of ordained pastoral ministry in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, authoring a book about keeping and telling secrets, and earning two master’s degrees (MAGL from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, and MAMFT from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant University). In addition to serving as a therapist, Esther also produces and hosts the podcast "Transgender Woman Talking”, a show about
life outside cisgender norms (https://estherloewen.com/podcast). She is married to her life-partner of 18 years, with whom she shares the joy of parenting their two brilliant, creative, energetic, and empathetic children. Learn more about Esther and her work at:
